Dial the Activation Number

Call 1-877-225-5266 from the phone number associated with your BMO account, if possible.

Enter Your Card Number

The IVR (interactive voice response) system will ask for your 16-digit BMO credit card number. Enter it using your keypad.

Verify Your Identity

You may be asked for your date of birth and the last digits of your Social Insurance Number (SIN) to confirm your identity.

Follow the Prompts

Listen to the instructions and confirm activation. The system will confirm when your card is active.

Dial the Banking Number

Call 1-800-363-9992. If calling from outside Canada, use the international number found on the back of your card or on bmo.com.

Select Card Activation

Choose the card activation option from the main menu. If you are not sure, say “activate card” or press 0 for a representative.

Provide Your Information

Enter your debit card number and verify your identity with your date of birth and postal code.

Confirm Activation

Follow the remaining prompts. The system will confirm once your BMO debit card is active.

Save the BMO card activation number in your phone contacts. Label it “BMO Activate Card” so you can find it quickly in the future.
BMO will never ask for your full SIN or full password over the phone. If a caller requests this information, hang up and call the official BMO card activation number directly.
